Robert and Karen Heydenburg, Owners
Resume of Owners, Robert & Karen Heydenburg
Robert graduated from Central Michigan University with a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Biology and a secondary teaching certificate in 1965. He later earned a Master’s Degree and a Educational Specialist Degree from Eastern Michigan University. After teaching science for ten years in Fraser, Michigan, he took a position as Community Education Director in Potterville, Michigan. In 1978, he joined his father and brother as a builder with Heydenburg Builders, Inc. in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. The business built Wausau homes, custom homes, and did additions and remodeling jobs. Bob and Karen incorporated Heydenburg Development, Inc. in 1985. HDI specialized in new home construction and condominium development. In 1997, HDI bought a franchise and began doing business as Purofirst of Mid-Michigan, a Single Source Provider of Fire & Water Damage Restoration & Reconstruction.
Karen graduated from Central Michigan University with a B.A. degree in English and a secondary teaching certificate in 1966. After teaching English for three years, she became a “stay-at-home Mom”. In Potterville, she directed a Parent-to-Parent educational program for parents of infants to two-year-olds funded by the state Mental Health Department. After re-locating to Mt. Pleasant, she became a real estate salesperson and broker. For several years she was the Executive Director of the local American Red Cross Chapter. When Purofirst of Mid-Michigan was started, Karen devoted herself full-time to managing and marketing the franchise. The franchise has grown from the two owners to between 15-20 full-time employees since 1997.
During January of 2007, the company left the franchise and established a new identity: HomeSavers Unlimited. Only the name changed: same staff, same location, same focus on excellence.
In order to expand our service area, the company bought the assets of Horizon Restoration in Houghton Lake and established a branch office of HomeSavers Unlimited. This northern branch reaches an hour radius of Houghton Lake and intersects the Mt. Pleasant service area.
